Skyla Strong has two main missions:
The first mission is to bring smiles to brave children battling cancer in the hospitals. Also, to offer comfort and support to their families. We have a lot of ideas on how to do this! Every trip to the hospital that we make we love to bring hot and ready donuts to the kids! A sweet treat to brighten their day! We know the hospital stays can be long and boring, so we also like to make some baskets with all kinds of goodies! The baskets contain activities and toys to help pass the time. Some of our baskets have contained games, puzzles, coloring books, prank items, silly string (to get the nurses!), stuffed animals, and many more toys for their enjoyment! It is a huge blessing to be able to put a smile on the brave fighters faces when they are having a rough week. We also like to bring gift cards and small gifts to the awesome parents of these children. The gifts cards are to help with some of the meal and fuel expenses of extended stays in the hospital. We hope to be able to continue to bring these gifts to the hospitals on a regular bases!
The second mission is for families that have faced one of the most terrifying, hardest decisions in their life. That day came for us when we were told that there is nothing medically that could be done for Skyla. All we could do is come home to allow Skyla to live the rest of her life like a normal 8 year old and pray daily that God would perform a miracle and heal Skyla of her cancer. They told us we had 4-6 weeks with her. I had the song “Live Like You Are Dying” by Tim McGraw running through my head. (Who can even begin to fathom “living” like you are dying.) In particular the verse “I went skydiving, I went Rocky Mountain climbing, I went 2.7 seconds on a bull name Fumanchu, and I loved deeper, and I spoke sweeter, and I gave forgiveness I’d been denying.” We decided we were going to spend the next few weeks doing just that. We wanted Skyla to be able to do whatever she wanted in this time. I sent out an email to everyone I do work with to let them know I would be a little MIA during this time and gave them information on who to contact. We were overwhelmed with the support we received. We had a few people contact us and say if there was anything that we wanted to do, to let them know and they would make sure that it happened, and they sent us on a trip of a life time! We got to have professional pictures taken with our family, go on trips, go out to eat, spend time with family and friends. God healed Skyla on October 25, 2016 by making her absolutely perfect in Heaven with Him. We would like to help those that are facing what we had to face. We want to help make their time left with their child as special as possible. We want to help them fill that time with happy memories. Whether that be a trip to the zoo, a museum, the beach, or having professional pictures taken. We would like to try and make that happen for them.
